Villa Rosa dei Venti, owned by the Michelis since 1900 and directly managed by four different family generations, is located in the heart of the Valdichiana in an interesting natural landscape framed by some places rich in history like the Etruscan town of Cortona, the castle of Montecchio Vesponi and the old medieval villages of Castiglion Fiorentino and Lucignano.
The Villa is surrounded by a typical rural environment full of landscape expression. Moreover, the Michelis place at their guests' disposal a wonderful cottage from the 18th century which has been recently restored on the basis of the original architectural features. All around the Villa there lies a large garden full of cypresses, olive trees and other typical trees of our land. One member of the Micheli family will welcome the guests and will be available to cater for their every need. Three lovely apartments and two cottages were created within the Villa Rosa dei Venti all of them are comfortably furnished and suitable for all kinds of customers.
The Maestrale apartment used to be the master residence and is located on the first floor of the main house. This apartment embodies the typical Tuscan house which can be entered over a stone staircase loggia paved with bricks leading to the square-shaped hall which in all old Tuscan houses was the entrance to the bedrooms. The blue room with bathroom, located on the west side of the house, dominates the swimming pool and the medieval villages of Foiano della Chiana, Lucignano and Marciano; the green room, located on the east side, has a view over the Etruscan town of Cortona. The yellow room, composed of two single beds, is located next to the green room.
The Scirocco and Grecale were converted into apartments from the farm's wine cellars, where about 30 years ago wine was kept and where white grapes were stored for the drying process and production of Vin Santo (Holy Wine). Both apartments, located on the east and west side, have independent entrances on the ground floor with private external space provided with garden furniture
The Libeccio cottage used to be a barn where the estate farm workers stored the fodder for their animals. Now it is a lovely dépendence for two people.
The Aliseo cottage used to be a place used to refresh horses serving as means of transport for people and products. Grandparents say that during the holydays such as the Carnival of Foiano della Chiana which took place in February, as it does today, whole families used to go from the countryside to the village on carts drawn by horses. Guests may still see within the estate one of the carts used to this end .
On the ground floor of the main house guests will find the Reception?. This was originally a spinning mill, where the young women of the farming families wove hemp and linen. Towels and bedclothes were woven with hemp, whereas table clothes, towels for special occasions? and bales for flour were woven with linen. Both the posts of the fireplace and the wood leaning on them are original. Moreover, a wonderful arch paved with bricks dividing the spinning mill into two parts, the one where the loom was located and the other one where the young women embroidered bedclothes, table linen and towels, was brought to light.
The Rosa dei Venti estate spreads over 25 hectares in the municipal district of Cortona. Its lands enjoys a favourable location, are well exposed to the sunlight and are suitable for the cultivation of olive trees, grapevines, wheat, sunflowers and melons. Two farmhouses are located within the estate: Villa Rosa dei venti? and the Vecchia Fattoria?. Villa Rosa dei Venti? is steeped in nature and beautifully sired; the swimming pool is located westwards where in the hot summer nights it is possible to enjoy a wonderful sunset. The Villa consists of three apartments called Maestrale (northwesterly wind), Scirocco (southeasterly wind) and Grecale (northeasterly wind). Libeccio (southwesterly wind) and Aliseo ( wind blowing from a subtropical anticyclone toward the Equatorial regions) are two separate cottages located in the park surrounding the Villa.
The Vecchia Fattoria? is located on the top of one of the three hills forming the hamlet of Creti, where some members of the Micheli Family still live. Here you may find farm tools and a small chicken, rabbit and goose farm. The Vecchia Fattoria? is surrounded by a vineyard (1 hectare) which may yield enough wine to satisfy both the Micheli family's and the estate guests' needs. Olive trees stand in the background both in the park of Villa Rosa dei Venti and in the Vecchia Fattoria and their oil and wine production can satisfy both the Micheli family's and the estate guests' needs.
